Tactile Partners with Christensen Knifeworks for New Fixed Blade

Last week Tactile Knife Co. teased a new fixed blade design called the Dreadeye on Instagram. The knife is the first blade under the Tactile banner that comes from a collaboration with an outside designer – in this case Matthew Christensen of Christensen Knifeworks.

We’ll spare you the recap of the Tactile Knife Co. story – if you’re reading this article you know all about the Texas-based shop, brainchild of EDC pen maker Will Hodges. The Tactile lineup has stayed small so far, but their knives, specifically the Rockwall and the Bexar, have been dominating the scene lately, and are staples on social media and in knife reviews.

Christensen is a staple too, on both the custom and production fronts. 2017 marked the year Christensen first turned an eye towards production stuff, starting out working with Kizer on a production version of the Critical. Since then he has worked with Reate, Civivi, and Custom Knife Factory, while still turning out his handmade knives as well.

The Dreadeye is an interesting addition to the portfolios of both partners. As mentioned above, this is the first Tactile Knife Co. design not created by the in-house crew. Then Christensen is best-known for his folders, so seeing a fixed blade with his name on it feels fresh. We recently wrote about the increased popularity of tantos recently, and the Dreadeye is yet another indication of the trend. In this mid-sized, fixed blade format, the tanto serves as a rugged and all-purpose everyday carry cutter. Meanwhile the ergonomics bring to mind the pared-down handles on Christensen’s folders, with a big finger groove under the guard and G-10 scales over the full tang body.

It’s worth noting that the Dreadeye is still in a pretty early phase of production for Tactile. The picture they showed on IG last week was still in blade blank form, with no final grind implemented yey. That being said Tactile is still sanguine about getting these out the door sooner rather than later. Here’s hoping we’ll have more to report shortly.
