TOPS Little Bugger Voted Best New Fixed Blade for EDC 2018

Presented by: Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpeners

We are pleased to announce that the TOPS Little Bugger is the KnifeNews Readers’ Choice for Best New Fixed Blade for EDC 2018. This wharncliffe-sporting tool came out on top in a race that also included the Benchmade Follow-Up and the Smith & Sons Spur.

The Little Bugger exhibited multiple characteristics that made it stand out in TOPS’s lineup. First, of course, was its size. TOPS actually caters to an impressive spread of sizes and use categories in its 200+ product catalog, but they are probably mostly associated with mid- to large-sized fixed blades. Seeing a new TOPS design exploring the sub-3-inch blade space was interesting in itself. Of course, even though the 2.4 oz. Little Bugger is small, it still benefits from TOPS’s full tang fixed blade know-how. Despite its EDC capabilities the Little Bugger is ready and willing to stand up to some harder use, whether that’s an extended box breaking session or a trek in the wilderness. It manages to feel both overbuilt and minimalist in a way that is unique to EDC fixed blades.

There was also the fact that the Little Bugger was a wharncliffe blade: again, not what first comes to mind when considering TOPS, nor when most folks are dreaming up hard-use fixed blade designs. However, celebrity collaborator Matt Graham – of Dual Survival and Dude, You’re Screwed fame – knows his stuff, and saw the EDC and outdoors potential of the wharncliffe blade. The straight edge is great for biting into fibrous material, and the very acute tip punctures with ease. The compact dimensions make it easy to choke up on the Little Bugger, with an index finger on the spine, for added control during delicate tasks.

A comfortable, ergonomically sensible handle rounds out the package. There are enough curves to make the knife fill the hand without becoming overly dictatorial in terms of how to hold it. If you like “EDC” to mean “ready for almost anything,” the Little Bugger fits the bill.
