Presented by: Work Sharp Knife & Tool Sharpeners
We are pleased to announce that the Zero Tolerance 0470 is the KnifeNews Readers’ Choice for Best New High-End Knife (MSRP of $300 or more) 2018. Other premium-tier competitors included the Benchmade mPR, GiantMouse GMP5, Grayman Knives Tiga, and the Spyderco Hanan.
It’s probably safe at this point to expect great things when Dmitry Sinkevich and ZT work together. This dynamic duo have put out a string of popular releases that resonate big time with knife buyers, often for years after their initial release. The 0470 seems poised to continue that tradition.
The new knife brings a great mid-size footprint into the lineup, striking a balance between the larger-than-life 0452 and the (relatively) diminutive 0450. CPM-20CV blade steel both feels and is ‘premium,’ and if multiform capability is important to you in your EDC, it’s up there among the best. Compared to some of the heights that production knives are going to these days with hyper-ambitious machining, the 0470’s overall finishing is competent and high quality, but simpler than some of the more baroque offerings out there. This is where Sinkevich’s style comes in. Technical, futuristic, angular – whatever adjectives you want to add on to it, he clearly nailed it.
But there is also the sensation that this knife is truly tuned to be an everyday worker, despite its luxury look and materials. It may not be a knife you thump on, but the designer and maker clearly want you to be able to use this knife and not just admire it. Visually, the 0470 almost hearkens back to the early days of ZT, when they were focused on overbuilt, heavyweight blades. However, it weighs only 3.3 oz., so there’s every chance this will see almost as much carry time as shelf time.
