Blade Show West will be going on this weekend, the second year for the fledgling show. Collectors, companies, and custom makers will be turning up in Portland, Oregon to mix and mingle, as well as enjoy a variety of knife-related activities and demonstrations.
Although still smaller than the original Blade Show by some margin, Blade Show West is putting out three days’ worth of activities for knife enthusiasts of all stripes. And, as with its bigger sibling, Blade Show West will be giving out awards for excellence in both the custom and production fields. Both genres had the same suite of six awards last year, and those have all been carried forward for another year alongside one new category: Best Kitchen Knife, which is also the only award among the bunch open to those who are not exhibiting.
In fact, kitchen cutlery is getting additional attention at Blade Show West. Saturday is capped off by a chef’s knife competition among a bevy of other demos and presentations.
Last year, over 200 exhibitors attended Blade Show West’s inaugural year. Compared to the more established eastern show, which regularly fields over 700 exhibitors, Blade Show West potentially has room to grow. According to the exhibitor list this year there are about 230 attendees.
Blade Show West runs from November 1 – 3.
