Cold Steel’s release schedule is heating up. One of their first summer 2024 reveals is the Full Metal Atlas, a robust folder with all the expected modern fixings and their proprietary Atlas Lock.

At 3.5 inches in length, the FMA’s blade lands right where you want it for a mid-size user, equally confident with large and smaller chores. Cold Steel’s catalog is populated by not a few handsome drop points, and the one here, with its streamlined, narrow profile, is the latest addition to that illustrious line. Comfortable and intuitive in use like all drop points, it’s made from an equally amenable steel, S35VN; well-rounded performance and straightforward reliability are the name of the game here.

While they certainly show up here and there in their catalog, Cold Steel, by and large, has been immune to the lure of the flipper knife trend. So it’s no surprise that the FMA opens with a thumb stud; no flippers, front or otherwise, on this bad boy. And, because there’s a stud on both sides of the blade, the FMA is easy to open for righties and lefties – a choice that also synergizes with the nature of the lock on offer here.

Yes, this is the latest Cold Steel knife built around the Atlas Lock, one of the company’s signature supertough locking mechanisms. Like the Andrew Demko-designed Tri-Ad Lock before it, the Atlas Lock functions a little like a lock back but, thanks to more advanced design and engineering, can withstand much more stress and pressure than that venerable mechanism. And all that mechanical goodness is folded in between handsome, unpretentious, simple titanium handle scales; it comes with a reversible deep carry pocket clip too.
