Award-Winning Ziffius Makes the Jump to Civivi Line

The first week of August, we wrote about a trio of Civivi releases due to hit this month; but in the meantime another new model actually arrived on shelves, a big knife called the Sentinel Strike. The Strike is modeled on a recent award-winning limited release from We Knife Co., the Ziffius.

Broadly speaking, We Knife Co. (of which Civivi is a sub-label) splits their releases between mainline, ongoing production model, and limited run knives, restricted to just a few hundred pieces each. Such a knife was the Ziffius, which came out in the spring of this year. An in-house We design, it was a large, super premium wharnie that especially resonated with users, winning two awards at Blade Show Texas including Best in Show. The Ziffius is long gone, but, in a rare occurrence, it has been adapted into the Civivi lineup in the form of the Sentinel Strike. The Strike retains most of the specifications and visual elements of the Ziffius, albeit with some flourishes of its own and materials scaled to its price point.

There’s a glassbreaker on the back end too

The blade length is the same between the two knives, an imposing 3.7 inches, but the profile of the Ziffius’s wharncliffe blade shape has been redrawn on the Sentinel Strike. Here it’s less rounded, more angular – the company describes it as a reverse tanto, and while we personally wouldn’t go that far, there is a marked visual distinction between the Strike and its predecessor. It does have the same pair of openers, a thumb stud and flipper tab, as well as the button lock and the forward finger choil below the cutting edge that we saw on the Ziffius.

As you would expect, the steel on this affordable Civivi interesting is not the CPM-20V that appeared on the premium original. The blade here is made from K110, a D2 equivalent from Austrian metallurgy company Bohler-Uddeholm. The handle shape hews close to the source material, and also mimics the integral backspacer that the Ziffius had – made here, not from titanium, but FRN (the main portion of tge scales are made from aluminum).

The Sentinel Strike is available now.
