MagnaCut Makes its OKC Debut in New Sports Leisure Line

Ontario Knife Company has been on a new release tear, showing off their 2023 products throughout December. Now that Christmas is over and things are back to normal, they company picked up right where they left off, showing us a brand new fixed blade family called the Sports Leisure series.

The OKC catalog is full of series; the company likes to riff on a central theme across several different models. In this case, the Sports Leisure series’ theme seems to be clean, quality renditions on outdoors fixed blades – but outdoors in the largest possible sense, as you can see from one of the two introductory models.

Before we talk about each of the new knives, let’s talk about the things they have in common. Most notably, the SPL knives mark MagnaCut’s entry into the OKC catalog. The new super steel has made its way from small batch to large scale production quite quickly, and now OKC is the latest in a long and growing list of adopters. Meanwhile the scales are made from something more familiar: contoured slabs of G-10, given a high viz orange color in traditional outdoor knife fashion (making them easier to find if they are dropped or misplaced).

The Dive Knife will give users a chance to try out MagnaCut in a submarine environment

The first SPL we saw was the Dive Knife, which not only introduced the world to the SPL line, but made it clear that OKC wanted to serve outdoor demographics beyond the de facto hiking/camping concepts. This is, well, a dive knife, coming in with a 4.14-inch blade with a blunted tip (not a secondary chisel edge) that prevents accidental puncturing and pulls double duty as a pry tool. The main edge is mostly plain, but there is a run of serrations at the base.

Those looking for a more terrestrial option will be pleased to see that SPL knife no. 2 is for them. Earlier today OKC posted an image of SPL Pack Knife. This one is a little shorter than its nautical sibling, with a blade length of 3.9 inches. The handsome drop point shape is all plain edge and does come with a pointy tip, too.

Together, the SPL knives are new for 2023 release four and five for OKC. They showed off the Besra fixed blade just ahead of Christmas, and earlier this month we saw the Camp Plus EDC folder and the Stealth.
