Matt Degnan Mini Roach is Kizer’s Halloween ’22 Knife

Halloween is nearly upon us, and Kizer is doing up the Matt Degnan-designed Mini Roach in a special Halloween costume to celebrate. This Halloween Mini Roach is the third Halloween knife Kizer has produced and the latest piece to roll out under the Kizer Friday Club banner.

The Roach model is an old standby – if any model can be called such in the catalogue of a company as relatively young as Kizer; as such it has generated quite a few additions to the line over the years. Originally debuted in a full-size configuration, the Roach was a mid-size EDC flipper with a wide, leaf-shaped blade and a generous finger groove expanding the control a user will have during tasks of different sizes. These forward ergonomic considerations are joined to a flowing, somewhat organic-looking, but overall simple, effective handle profile. Over the years we saw the Roach in both Bladesmith and Vanguard configurations, followed, eventually, by the obligatory and well-received Mini Roach.

The deep carry pocket clip seen on other Mini Roach models is present and accounted for

It is this latter that joins the Kizer Friday Club collection this week. That means a blade length of 3 inches, well-suited for most of the same tasks as its larger brother without having as large a footprint. All of the Mini Roach specifications are brought forward unchanged in this Kizer Friday flavor, right down to the blade steel, which is 154CM. The flourishes here, as they should be for a holiday centered around appearances, are all cosmetic. There’s a blackwash been applied to the blade, and pumpkin orange G-10 handle scales front and back – with a grinning jack o’ lantern cut into the front scale to capitalize on the cucurbitaceous vibe.

Kizer has a line in Halloween knives generally. They kicked it off in 2020 with a special Lieb, followed it hte next year with the very aptly named October. Of course the Halloween knives fit in perfectly in the ongoing Kizer Friday Club project, which sees the company regularly gussying up different models in one-off special editions.

The Halloween Kizer Friday Mini Roach this Friday, October 21, at 8pm EST/5pm PST.
