Spyderco Lil’ Native to Get Lightweight Treatment

SpyderCollector concluded his coverage of the Spyderco Amsterdam Meet on Friday, posting images of a final handful of prototypes. This batch included the Lil’ Native Lightweight, which lives up to its name as the lightest ever version of the design.

The standard Lil’ Native, dressed in G-10 scales, released in 2017. That isn’t ancient history, but even though it’s a relatively young model the Lil’ Native has received a fleet of variants in the intervening fiveish years. There was a slipjoint model, a Compression Lock model, and a backlock version; one incarnation was conspicuously absent, especially in comparison to its full-sized brother, was an FRN-handled model. The FRN lightweight option is a classic expansion for all “core” Spyderco models, so it’s not surprising to see the Lil’ Native is scheduled to get the treatment too.

The Lil’ Native LW is quite a small knife

As was the case with the Native Chief LW (also revealed at the Amsterdam Meet), the Lil’ Native LW is the lightest knife in its family. Compared to its G-10 siblings, it takes about half an ounce of weight, which brings it under the 2 oz. mark – 1.55 oz. according to SpyderCollector’s measurements. It retains the same blade length as its G-10 models: about 2.45 inches in length, with that big forward finger choil imparting a ton of fine control over the leaf shaped S30V blade.

The prototype’s scales are supporting that classic bidirectional texturing that has been a staple of the FRN-handled Spydies for yonks. It has no liners, but comes with a back lock mechanism; no info at this time if there will be Compression Lock and slippie variants in FRN.

We covered two other SpyderCollector Amsterdam Meet 2023 reveals, the Native Chief LW and the Para Military 2 Salt with MagnaCut. But there were a handful of other knives too, including a new blade shape for the Manbug; you can see all the Amsterdam Meet stuff over at SpyderCollector’s site.
