Steel Will Surprises with Two More Knife Releases

Steel Will simply will not relent: a constant stream of knife models has flowed from the company this year, and they’ve just revealed two more: the Kobold and the Sargas.

Kobold

Steel Will’s 2019 catalog contained lots of knives, but few that pushed into genuinely new territory for them style-wise. The Kobold may be the most radical release of the year. It’s the smallest knife Steel Will has ever released, with a modified, snubby drop point blade a mere 1.75 inches long. Steel Will’s copy on the knife plays up the Kobold’s fidget factor and, indeed, the D2 drop point is opened with either the opening hole or a ball bearing-powered flipper.

G-10 scales, available in blue, orange, or black, are laid on top of the Kobold’s steel liners, the off-side of which has a locking leaf cut into it. Steel Will also gave a lanyard hole in the backspacer, but the pocket clip appears to be non-reversible. The Kobold weighs 2.68 oz.

Sargas

The Sargas follows in the footsteps of the Shaula, which Steel Will dropped back in August. Its blade is a skosh shorter at 3.25 inches, and a trailing point rather than a drop point, but is made from the same D2 steel and opened via flipper.

Major family resemblance can be found in the handle design: like the Shaula, the Sargas’s ergonomic design features a single finger groove and then an arched, humpbacked, tapering handle – and in the case of the Sargas the curvature seems to be a little more dramatic as well. The Sargas weighs 4.41 oz. and comes with the same (reversible) deep carry clip as the Shaula.

This is the first batch of Steel Will releases in November. The last we heard from the company was in October, with the mid-month release of the large Gienah folder. Any way you look at it, though, it’s been a busy year for Steel Will, with other releases including the Mini Modus, Tasso F12, and the Tommaso Rumici-designed Piercer.

Both the Kobold and the Sargas are slated for immediate release on November 18th. The Kobold’s MSRP is $59.99, and the Sargas retails for $64.99.
